Mission...

.... to eat mostly organic instead of about 20% organic.

Mission....

.... to find a way to shop at Whole Foods or Henry's for cheap.

Mission....

.... half way accomplished!

I've been big into eating organic for quite a while now. It was nothing new to me since my parents have friends who are organic farmers in Washington. It just wasn't something we completely lived off of. Over the past few years I've tried hard to mix organic and non organic into our meals. I've done a pretty good job at it, I just new I could do better. And I decided that I was going to stop with the excuses and "what ifs".

I had decided to change up our grocery shopping into every week instead of every pay check, in hopes of not wasting food anymore. I did great at saving money, I'm a pro at that... however, I've never tried it at a specialty store before. The plan is to buy all our fruits and veggies at farmers markets and the rest at Whole Foods {and whatever little leftovers at the commissary}. Tuesday was the day. Not gonna lie I was a little nervous that it wasn't going to work well. I didn't make it to a farmers market since the closest one I knew of was out in Coronado and I had no reason to go all the way out there. I ended up spending $53 on groceries at Whole Foods and was very happy! I even found some Popchips! LOVE them! And Target now cares Lara Bars so I bought a box of the minis. Yum.

All in all I am very happy with how everything turned out. We will be eating healthier, no more having to worry about pesticides. And no more wasting food.

Anyone have advice on shopping organic?! Or obsessed with Lara Bars and Popchips like I am :)

Is it sad I don't even know what PopChips or Lara Bars are? Apparently I've spent WAY too much time in the processed foods aisle!

I'm thinking about joining a CSA to get more organic veggies for less $. I'll blog about it if I do it.

I have been trying to do the same thing to. I am going to brave whole foods next week. I am glad you got out of there with a not so huge bill. I will try to be emulate you next week!

This is something that I've been meaning to do for a while now. It's just so hard to let go of those frozen meals!

Oh man, I miss Henry's. The prices when they had sales were AMAZING--and also the bulk food section was so great. Sigh. I miss it.

I would love to buy only organic, but it's so expensive. To make it cheaper I try to follow these guidelines:

And buy those things organic (and a few other things I don't think are on there, like lettuce and squashes) and the rest just buy conventional. Hopefully that way I'm at least limiting the majority of exposure to pesticides.
